SportXAwards to Honour Excellence Across South Africa’s Sport Business Sector
Johannesburg, South Africa - Gerom Media has launched the inaugural SportXAwards, a national recognition programme celebrating excellence across South Africa's sports business sector. Combining independent media benchmarking with industry awards, the programme will recognise the organisations, brands and individuals making the greatest contribution to the growth and commercial success of sport.
The awards programme comprises three segments. The SportX Pro Awards will recognise professional sports organisations, executives and emerging leaders for excellence in leadership, governance, marketing, sponsorship and commercial performance. The SportX MassActive Awards will honour leading mass participation events, race organisers, host destinations and industry partners, while the SportX Sponsorship & Sports Brands Awards will recognise sponsors and sports brands achieving the highest earned media visibility and editorial impact.
The programme will commence in October 2026 with the release of the SportX Media Index rankings for each awards segment, measuring online earned media coverage achieved during the period July 2025 to June 2026. The rankings will identify the country's most visible organisations and brands, with the final positions remaining confidential until they are revealed at the inaugural SportXAwards ceremony in early 2027, creating anticipation across the sports industry.

The SportXAwards aims to become South Africa's premier benchmark for excellence in the business of sport, bringing together rights holders, sponsors, federations, event organisers, agencies and industry leaders to celebrate outstanding achievement.
